Awakening, Awake? Wake up?

We do live free daily meditation ask for more details, group routine is life changing!


About this post: I am trying to remain in a state of awareness for as long as possible from the morning.

I have not Zenned my way into "awakening" when the alarm goes off!


However I have the intention 😂


This practise I have read and experienced from both Thich Nhat Hahn who advocated to start the day when one wakes in bed with awareness of just that action! Without "jumping out of bed " on autopilot, instead- stretching like a cat and being great full for the day. And perhaps even a vow to spend the next glorious 24 hours in awareness.


I've also read the idea from the Burmese noting practise (Mahasi Sayadaw)

as follows: "awakening" "rising" "moving" "washing" "drinking" "brushing" and so on. This "Noting" is totally in line with the Zen approach of Thich Nhat Hahn and of course many of the awareness practises point in the same direction.

We are advocates of the TNH Plum Village practise of maintaining passive meditation through out the day.

I am a BIG FAN of the written Gathas from Plum Village and this one on my alarm clock in my bathroom and elsewhere in the house. The "awakening" Gatha is equal to the "brushing my teeth" Gatha- to be aware of that single act of present moment awareness has power.


And finally, might I add a personal piece of experience: using the alternative hand to brush ones teeth seems to generate somatic awareness.
